This week was a great week. We did two different assessments on Tuesday and Wednesday. Learning how to grade and do these assessments is vital moving forward. My cooperating teacher was very helpful as this was my first time grading elementary students on a exceeds, meets, or approaching scale. The two assessments we did were on volleyball passing and performance within a volleyball match. Next week will also be doing our volleyball verbal assessment. My goal from last week was to set some parent teacher conferences meetings up with numerous parents. I have contacted and set a handle full of times to meet with parents during our parent teacher conference slots which will be happening a week from this upcoming Monday. My goal for this upcoming week is to update my students documents of the good things happening in class and the issues that are happening in class so I am prepared and organized for the parents who are attending parent teacher conferences. I think having documentation is very important in the field of education.

Chapter ten showed an interesting story. It amazes me how far and different things have come since then. One of my biggest takeaways from this chapter was that no matter what in the society we live in today that there are always going to be people who disagree with your opinions or beliefs. As a teacher, I must be able to focus on my abilities, beliefs, and opinions to help maximize my student growth. Teaching each individual is very important. This is where I also agree with Barbara's opinion. The many different ideas from this chapter are important for all teachers to understand. Another thing that was really eye opening to me and made me think more in depth about was when the chapter touched on privileges. Each individual student has a great honor and privilege to learn from teachers regardless of their background.

You are wise to keep careful records, not just for conferences, since other things might arise that warrant going back to find out what really happened or how someone did on a particular assessment. Sometimes students and parents can argue about grades given, so having all the records makes it a lot easier to show the evidence for the grade given.
ReplyDeleteSo what do you think social justice has to do with PE?
Learning good grading methods is crucial. Keeping accurate records of your students work will make your job as a teacher so much easier as you will have solid evidence backing up your grading. Not sure from reading your chapter 10 review how you think social justice issues relate to PE.
