Week eleven was another good one. We started a new unit; volleyball. Students were excited to get going with volleyball. Something I noticed and can be difficult is that 2nd grade does different lessons compared to 3rd and 4th grade. With that being said, I feel as if it is more difficult for me to get more comfortable teaching the material or lesson. My goal I set for this week was to teach more often rather than observing and contributing only a little bit. This week, I co-taught with my cooperating teacher. Co-teaching with my cooperating teacher is beneficial in many ways. I look forward to leading the class in the upcoming weeks. My goal for next week is to write my first lesson plans at this placement.

My biggest takeaway from this chapter was communication to parents. I have some experience with communicating with parents over the last 4 year coaching baseball and basketball. There is definite need for improvement. I know with being a teacher, communicating to parents is going to be very important. I’ve recently had experience with communicating to parents. For instance, my last week at my first placement I called multiple parents. It was great experience. On Friday, I had set up a meeting with parents about a students behavior. Keeping the parents up to date on how their child has been acting whether good or bad!

I'm not sure what you mean that the lessons are different for 2nd grade. In what way? So why are you not comfortable? How is co-teaching beneficial? What exactly did you do with this method? What sort of strategies did you use? Would you use these again? I would like to see a lot more about what happened and what you though and learned.
ReplyDeleteJoey, It is not unusual for classes to be in different units thus creating the need for different lesson plans. That's the world of education. I am not sure why that makes you uncomfortable teaching the material or lesson. I am not quite understanding what "contributing only a little bit" means. I would like to hear about the ways you find co-teaching beneficial. Yes communicating with parents is very important and I am glad you had some experiences with that at your last placement.
