Week seven had its ups and downs which seems to be the new normal. All of my classes are very different therefore this keeps me on my toes and have to attack each class differently. This week we were in full force of our Ultimate Frisbee unit. Last week and this week seem to have been very hectic getting going in the unit. We had a few days with no physical education classes because of presentations and shorten days. My goal last week was to attend a school athletic event. I attended the boys football game this weekend. The boys were very happy to see me at their game. I believe this helped create an even better bond with these certain students. My new goal for upcoming week is to have more of my lessons be student led as they are more aware of my routines and expectations.
Classroom Confidential - Chapter 5
In all classrooms, stimulating discussion is important to help enhance student's overall learning. The ways in which I stimulate discussion is by asking frequent questions during instruction and activities along with using a verbal cue count down for students to sit down and communicate with their neighbors about what is going well and what are some challenges. Using higher level thinking questions in physical education can be difficult. A way I have used higher level thinking questions in my class is by asking students to answer difficult questions on our end of unit exams or assessments. I found a few things valuable throughout chapter 5, but one really stuck out to me which was wait time in a hurried world. I ask students questions throughout each lesson to give me an idea of their overall learning and interest. My biggest struggle with this is my questions aren't very clear and I don't give students the proper amount of time to answer. I think if students let the question soak in, their answer will be more clear and beneficial.

Attending students activities outside the classroom is always a great idea. The see you in a different light and it shows your interest in them other than a strictly their student. Be sure that you give thought to questions prior to class so that they are clear to your students .
ReplyDeleteI agree that attending students' event outside of school is a great way to help build rapport and get students on your side. You make a good point about wait time when asking students questions. It can be uncomfortable when no one speaks up, but some students really need that time.
